Parents, students, teachers, and the Gurdwara management all work together to achieve it.

The teachers strive to enable students to learn reading, writing, and speaking in the Punjabi, develop awareness of our rich cultural heritage, and instill pride in their Sikh identity. Currently, we have four learner groups based on students’ age and skill. Each level focuses on a number of concepts and skills to be mastered by each student. The youngest group is of children 3 to 5 year old; the oldest group is of high school students; and the other two lie in the middle.

Our goal at the Nishaan Academy is that every student be able to ultimately:

● Demonstrate the knowledge of Sikh way of life and Sikh History.

● Read Gurmukhi and Gurbani fluently.

● Write Gurmukhi with ease.

● Speak Punjabi in social settings.

Classes mirror the regular school year and are held on Sundays from 10:30 AM to 12 PM. Registration is required, and students are expected to attend all classes on time. Regular meetings are held by teachers to evaluate the progress of the children; the class and homework are evaluated accordingly. Exams are given at the discretion of teachers. Parents are kept abreast of the students’ progress throughout the year.

Children are encouraged to participate in Kirtan after their class in the main weekly Divaan. Several Gurpurabs are celebrated during the school year in which children can take the lead. We may also organize various competitions during the year, such as the Speech Symposium, Gurbani Recitation, Gurmat Camp, and others; children participate in all the events every year, which helps build their self-confidence and commitment to the Sikh culture.

We encourage parents to enroll their children in the Nishaan Academy. Please know that by working together we can achieve our common objectives, and the entire community will reap the benefits of this endeavor.[/fusion_text]
